Here, you can learn more about our calling and the work we’ll be doing in Costa Rica. We’re excited to share our journey with you and invite you to join us in supporting this mission and the people we’ll be serving.
Our time in Costa Rica
We’re Josh and Rachel Swift, and we’re stepping into a year-long mission in Costa Rica to serve alongside two impactful ministries: ProMETA and Sojourn Christian School International.
Missions have been woven into our story from the very beginning. We actually met while serving on a couple month long trip to Guatemala. Latin America has had a special place in our hearts ever since. Over the past couple of years, we’ve been praying, “Lord, how can You use our skills and passions for Your Kingdom?”
In 2023, our home church in Ludington highlighted a missionary couple who have served in Costa Rica. Through that connection, we were introduced to two ministries doing incredible work:
-
ProMETA, an online seminary equipping Spanish-speaking leaders across Latin America
-
Sojourn, a bilingual Christian school serving both local and international families
After visiting in person, we felt a strong confirmation: God could use our unique gifts, in filmmaking and early childhood education, to support what He’s already doing through these ministries.

What We’ll Be Doing:
Josh will serve with ProMETA, a seminary that has been training Latin American pastors and Christian leaders for over 25 years. Their mission is to provide accessible, high-quality theological education to Spanish-speaking students across the region.
With a background in filmmaking, storytelling, and media strategy, Josh aims to train and mentor a local creative to:
-
Produce compelling fundraising and recruitment videos
-
Strengthen ProMETA’s digital marketing and communication
-
Build simple media systems to help professors teach more consistently online
-
Eventually launch a basic media course for pastors and leaders
The goal is to help ProMETA grow its reach and impact—equipping more leaders to serve their communities well.

Rachel will be working with Sojourn Christian School, which began in 1993 to help missionary kids transition to life in Costa Rica. Today, it’s a fully accredited school that serves students from daycare through 12th grade.
Rachel will join the early childhood team, where she’ll:
-
Support teachers and young children, especially cross-cultural and missionary kids
-
Assist with English-language development
-
Foster a safe, Christ-centered environment where kids feel known and loved
One of the main reasons missionary families leave the field is because their children struggle to adjust. Rachel’s role is to help kids thrive so their families can stay and continue their calling with peace and confidence.

Our Vision
We believe this year in Costa Rica is a step of obedience; an opportunity to serve with purpose, creativity, and compassion.
We’ll also be studying Spanish to better connect with the communities we’re working with and build relationships that go beyond language.
More than anything, we want to come alongside what God is already doing—offering our gifts to strengthen and encourage those faithfully serving in Latin America.

Join Us
We are so grateful for the people walking with us in this season whether it is through prayer, financial support, and encouragement. Your partnership means the world to us.
Thank you for being part of this journey!

With love and gratitude,
Josh & Rachel Swift
