Hey Support Family!

This week here in Costa Rica is Semana Santa, a time where much of the country slows down. For us this is a great time to reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Taking time to pause has reminded us why we are here in the first place. We are here because of the love of Christ, and because we want to share that love while supporting

the ministries God has called us into.

It is a good reset. A reminder that Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve” and to give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45), so that we could find life in Him. As we reflect on that, we are grateful for the opportunity to live and serve here, and to be shaped more into that same posture.

Sojourn

After a month of traveling and hosting family, it has been good to settle back into our ministry routines. There is something grounding about stepping back into the everyday responsibilities and rhythms that God has placed in front of us.

It has helped us feel more present and focused in this season.

At the school, we had the opportunity to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day with the English classrooms as part of his birthday month and a focus on reading. It ended up being such a fun day. We dressed up, read together, and got to see the creativity of the kids come out in full force.

It was especially fun connecting with the students in a different way through something playful and engaging. Costa Ricans really know how to celebrate, and when they hear there is a party, they go all out. The excitement and joy from the kiddos made the day memorable.

ProMETA

Work with ProMETA continues to move forward, though not without its challenges.

Building a Marketing department from the ground up requires a lot of thought, patience, and problem solving. There are still many unknowns, and at times it can feel slow.

At the same time, we can clearly see how God is using this process to grow Josh. It is stretching him in leadership, in communication (with the language barrier), and in trusting God when things are not fully clear yet. Even in the challenges, there is a sense that something meaningful is being built over time.

7 Months In

This month we have been continuing to build a sense of home here. From planting plants and hanging pictures to spending time with friends, these small steps have made a big difference. It has been a simple but meaningful way of putting down roots and embracing this season.

We have also been enjoying staying active with friends through running and playing different sports. These rhythms have helped create balance alongside ministry and have been important for building deeper relationships within our community.

It is crazy to think about how we have now been here a little over seven months. It feels both long and short at the same time. Looking back, we are so grateful for how God has provided, guided, and sustained us through every step.

To everyone who has supported us, prayed for us, and encouraged us, thank you. Your support is what makes this possible. We truly could not be here without you.

We praise God for His faithfulness and for the ways He continues to grow our faith in this season. We are expectant for what He will continue to do in the months ahead.

Fundraising Update

We are grateful to share that we’ve currently raised 77.22% of our needed support for this year! We are getting closer. We thank God for His provision so far and for each of you who have prayed, encouraged, and given so generously to help us reach this point.

Would you continue to join us in prayer as we seek the remaining support?

Specifically, please pray:

  • For potential new donors and opportunities to share our vision, even here in Costa Rica.

  • That we would not grow discouraged, but instead keep our eyes on God as our daily Provider.

  • For faith to rely on Him each day for our “daily bread,” trusting that He will continue to be faithful.

God has already shown His provision in so many ways, and we are confident He will continue to lead and supply all that is needed for the ministry ahead.

Support us

Prayer requests

  • For us to reflect on the importance of being here in this season. To be reminded of Mark 10:45.

  • For Spanish to become a heart language.

  • The ProMETA graduation coming up towards the end of this month. Pray that we can connect with those who serve and are also connected to ProMETA that will be coming in for that week.

  • That Josh, along with the ProMETA Team would gain clarity on who the right person is to be mentored by Josh this year (for their Marketing department).

  • Ongoing provision and new partners to join our support team.

Praise God

  • For His faithfulness & goodness that He continues to show us each day.

  • We have been here for a little over 7 months! God’s Provision.

  • That He goes before us & continues to sustain & guide us through the unknowns.

We are deeply grateful for your prayers, encouragement, and generosity. Your partnership makes it possible for us to be here, learning, growing, and serving.

With love and gratitude,

Joshua & Rachel Swift
